Choir Sundays #16

This month's colors: Black with red
Jacket: Silhouette Patterns 'Robin's Jacket', from red/silver/black/white mini-plaid wool crepe;
Sweater: black RTW rayon blend fine gauge turtleneck sweater;
Pants:The new black wool gabardine Loes Hinse Oxford Pant. We were in the 20's this morning, so it was cold enough to wear them! I did add a little to the pants (middle-age spread, I'm afraid), so the legs are fuller than the pattern design.

No weird socks this week!

This will be the last choir post this month; we won't be dressing for choir for the next two weeks (hm. Perhaps a better way to put that would be 'we won't be wearing specific colors for a choir wardrobe for the next two weeks'...).
If you enjoyed the choir posts, let me know; I may just go ahead and do it a while longer yet....at least through January; I hope to get some nice royal blue stuff made up after the 1st!

Choir Sundays #15

This month's colors: Red and black
Vest: RTW embroidered cotton velveteen; it's been around for, oh, a minimum of 6 years.
Blouse: OOP Kwik Sew that I haven't even reviewed yet. I think the blouse is older than the vest. It's a poly peachskin; pretty color, but, well, polyester....
Pants: Black cotton twill Vogue 7881 again. I wanted to wear the new black gab Oxfords, but it was 67 degrees F when we left for church this morning; I didn't feel quite like roasting in wool pants w/a liner. That was a good call; I was *plenty* warm in the velveteen vest! Maybe next week....

Too bad you can't see my 'red w/white and glittery gold poinsettias' socks! LOL

Choir Sundays #14

This month's choir colors: Black and red


Jacket: Silhouette Patterns Robin's Jacket, made last fall from a red sparkley plaid from Fashion Sewing Group

Dress: The original version of The Sewing Workshop's Cityscapes Dress, made in 2005 from black poly/lycra slinky. We had a Christmas luncheon after church today...I'm still avoiding the waistbands ;). ( The head tilt is an effort to avoid glasses glare. It sort of worked...minimal glare...but I'm not sure I think the resulting goofy pose is any better)

Choir Sundays #13

This month's colors: burgundy and black
It's the Sewing Workshop Cityscapes Dress, which I will again attest to being the best thing in the world to wear on the Sunday after (burp) Thanksgiving ;), from the deeply discounted slinky knit I purchased at Sir's last May.

The scarf is one of my first serger projects (that'd make it somewhere around 17 years old); just a small square that was finished off with faux flatlocking and fringe. It's too bulky to tie, but it works with a scarf clip (from, oh, 1990ish?)

Choir Sundays #12

This month's colors: Black with burgundy
Top: Sewing Workshop Tribeca Shirt (review here) from the burgundy/black or blue black (depends on the light) brocade from Sir's. (That's an 'under 8 dollars' top...).

Pants are the black poly microfiber Sewing Workshop Plaza Pants again.

I do have a black tank top on underneath the Tribeca; the buttons are spaced far enough apart that the top sometimes gaps a little when I move around. Nothing a little knit cami doesn't take care of ;).

Choir Sundays #11

This month's colors: Black and burgundy
Jacket: The black Bistro again;
Top: The brand-new brocade City Dress shell (gotta use the new stuff!)
Pants:Black poly microfiber Sewing Workshop Plaza Pants, which are beginning to look a little worn (they're only...3 years old?) and need to be replaced.

I ended up getting pulled out of choir to do some other things today, but I didn't know that was going to happen when I left the house....

Choir Sundays #10

This month's colors: Black with Burgundy (I suspect the blue lights were on again, making the deep reds look brighter. It really has been interesting to see how the colored lights affect the colors in our garments!)

This was taken during pre-service rehearsal...and it was cold in the sanctuary! Hence the coffee mugs, water bottles and jackets.


Top:Hot Pattern's Cadeau Top, the second test from printed poly matte jersey. I'd only worn this once before...out to dinner with My Sweet Baboo...and I don't think I'll try wearing it to choir again. The left shoulder (probably because my left shoulder is even narrower than my right shoulder) kept slipping off...not a good look for choir! Fortunately, I was in the back row as usual; hopefully I was not too noticeable.

It's a fine 'go to dinner with the sweetie' top, but not a worship top. I wasn't thinking when I put it on....

The pants are the same ol' black cotton twill Vogue7881 pants that I've worn in several photos now; they're comfy and they fit pretty good. As I said last week, I gotta make this pattern up at least a couple of more times ;)

Oh...it's 'Happy Birthday, Sew Random' day today, too...I wrote my first blog post two years ago today. Hard for me to believe it's been 2 years! Thanks to everyone who's stopped by, and especially thanks to everyone who's left a comment! ;)

Choir Sundays # 9

This month's colors: Black w/tan or orange

The sweater is a RTW purchase that's a couple of years old (it dates back to the first time we had to wear tan in choir);

The pants are Vogue7881, from black cotton twill. I've got some black wool gab I *really* need to cut into and make another pair of these pants.

And, just so you know, I strung the necklace from a bulk bag of mixed black glass beads that came from Hobby Lobby.

I'm sure you're noticing the repeating garments over the last couple of months; that's just the facts of choir!

New colors next week; I've got some 'queue jumping' to do again this week...I really want to get my this-years-burgundy-fabric-purchases made up in time to wear them. We'll see how the week goes.

Choir Sundays #8

This month's choir colors: Black w/either tan or orange
Jacket: Cutting Line Designs Anything but Ordinary Jacket, made from a chenilley-type cotton blend houndstooth jacquard from Hancock's upholstery remnants table.

Pants:La Fred's Modified Daphne Pants, black cotton/lycra twill from FFC.

I've got a black cotton/lycra Lands' End t-shirt on, too, but it doesn't show ;).

Choir Sunday #7

Jacket: Loes Hinse's Bistro Jacket, from black poly herringbone weave suiting
Top: Jalie 2005 T-shirt from very nice printed cotton/lyrca knit from Emma One Sock
Pants: Loes Hinse's Oxford Pant, morphed with the zipper application from the European Pant, made from the same fabric as the jacket.

Choir Sundays #6

This month's colors are black w/either orange or tan. It's interesting to see the various interpretations of color, but overall it seems to work. The gap in the center of the back row is where I was standing before I hopped down to take the photo!


I wore one of my favorite tan (ok, I'll admit it...it's almost brown, although it really isn't quite as dark as it looks in the photo) and black outfits, made for SWAP Challenge 2005; the jacket is Vogue 7914, shortened about 3" in the back; the pants are Stretch and Sew 704 (no-side-seam pants w/POCKETS!).

The fabrics are two colorways of Hancock's embroidered rayon/linen blend and are very, very soft. I love wearing this, even if it's not the most figure-flattering outfit in the closet. It's just so doggone comfortable!

Tops: Jalie 965 tank-style cami and Simplicity 4076 twist top, both from greyed-blue modal rayon/lycra knit from fabric.com
Pants: Vogue 7881, black cotton twill from the dollar table at Wal-mart that I am *still* upset over because I only purchased enough for one pair of pants, instead of getting the whole bolt. That fabric would've definitly been worth stashing!

We also served at a 'visitor's luncheon' today...our bi-monthly opportunity for new folks to learn about the church and have a Q&A session with the pastors...so it's the almost worn out but uber comfy shoes for today!

ETA: I have no idea why this picture looks squished. It's even worse on bloglines...I must've had some setting messed up when I resized it down to fit on the screen...

New Series: Choir Sundays

Thought I'd try something a little different; since I talk so much about sewing for my church choir wardrobe, I thought I'd do a variation on the ladies who post 'what I wore today' things and do a series of photos about what the choir is wearing.

This month: Black and light blue (blue lights make some of the tops/shirts look white) :I jumped down during pre-service rehearsal to take the photo.












Here's what I wore today (I have no idea why I look like I just got off a horse...optical illusion from the shadows, maybe? I was standing w/my weight on one leg, but not crouched!):

That's the Vogue 8398 eyelet jacket, the shell top from the Kwik Sew Newman Blue Twinset (which I just noticed this morning was an exact match for the blue in the jacket...wow) and the just-finished black modified La Fred Daphne pants.

I'll probably only do one choir photo per month, but at least it'll explain somewhat the rather peculiar wardrobing I do sometimes!

I'll do it for at least the rest of the year; we'll see how it goes after that.
