Last Choir Sunday Post for 08 -- number 40

This month's colors:Red and black

Jacket: Silhouette Patterns Robin's Jacket, made from silver/black/red plaid wool/lurex crepe and bound w/faux suede. It's over a black RTW fine gauge turtleneck sweater.

Skirt: Kwik Sew 2581, from black rayon crepe.

This is the last choir post of the year, since we won't be in choir next week! I likely won't get to the blog for the next week or so, so I want to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas...may you have many happy returns of the season! ;)

This Month's Colors: Red and Black

I'm wearing...
A RTW black wool flannel Requirements jacket that I've had for something like 10 years

A likewise ancient red poly microfiber blouse from a looooonnnng out-of-print Kwik Sew pattern. I remember getting that fabric when microfiber was a brand new exciting thing. But it's still polyester...and one day I'll replace it with silk. ;)

My black wool gabardine Loes Hinse Oxford Pants

Our fearless leader gave us the heads up about colors for the next two months...royal blue and black next month(Yay! I can wear those things I made last year too late to wear!) and black and white in February. So -- no panic sewing in the immediate future, anyway!

Choir Sundays 08 # 38

This month's colors: burgundy and black w/blue jeans

I basically did a repeat of what I wore three weeks ago, except with longer, lighter colored Lee jeans...it's my brocade Sewing Workshop Tribeca Shirt, with a matching Modified Loes Hinse City Dress bodice shell under it. I like this top and it's the last chance to wear it in choir for a while.

Next week we'll be going to our satellite campus an hour down the road, so we won't be in choir and I won't be doing a Choir Sunday post.

But I get to wear whatever I want and, given the amount of eating I did this week and the snugness of my waistband, I think I'm leaning towards one of my Cityscapes dresses...

Choir Sundays 08 # 37

This Month's Colors:Burgundy and/or black w/blue jeans

Well, it's a RTW vest in embroidered black cotton velveteen that has been in my closet for something like 8 years and really isn't as small as it looks in the picture; I could've buttoned it fine, but I didn't like the way it looked buttoned over the sweater.

And, a RTW rayon blend sweater that I bought last year for the Burgundy Choir Month.

I did, however, make the skirt...it's the Vogue 2872 denim skirt that I adjusted earlier this fall. We were going to an afternoon concert and I wanted to be just a smidge dressier than blue jeans. The picture was taken *after* the concert, so it had been a rather long day at that point!

The concert was Mannheim Steamroller's Christmas Tour and it was A.May.Zing. Even without Chip Davis. It was worth fudging on my 'no Christmas music before Thanksgiving' pledge....

Speaking of Thanksgiving, I will be taking a blogging break for the next week to prepare for and enjoy the holiday...hope everyone has much to be thankful for and enjoys the feast of celebration! Catch ya next week...

Choir Sundays 08 #36

This Month's Colors:Black and/or burgundy w/blue jeans

I'm lovin' Butterick 5185. This is the burgundy slinky rendition; it's perfect for choir!

Or, at least it's perfect as long as I wear something under it, like the black rayon/lyrca knit Jalie 965 tank top.

I had some, um, more fierce shoes I could've worn, but went with the lower, more stable, slightly clunky Mudds because my low back has been bothering me. But the dark wash Lee bootcuts have shrunk just slightly, so I can get away with the lower shoes now.

I need some chunky black jewelry; I picked up some beads at half-price at Hobby Lobby a couple of weeks ago; I need to get on that...

Choir Sundays 08 # 35

This Month's colors:Burgundy and/or black w/blue jeans

I tried jumping down and snapping the picture as the choir came out onto the risers at about a minute and a half before the service started. There were no stage lights on; only a little blue wash light on the wall behind us. The silhouette looked really cool, but of course that went away with the flash. Sigh...with so little light, it looks rather grainy. Still, you can get the idea.

The gap in the back row is where I stood...

Anyway, I wore my brocade Sewing Workshop Tribeca Shirt, with a matching Modified Loes Hinse City Dress bodice shell under it...just in case...

And my dark wash boot cut Lee jeans with, um, boots.

I need to make one or two more shirts from that Tribeca pattern...it's kinda neat...

Choir Sundays '08 #34

This Month's Colors: Burgundy and/or black w/blue jeans
I wasn't able to get a choir photo; DD #1 (Whom I am going to refer to from this point on as 'The Princess', since I've been developing labels for all the kids) works in the sound booth and I think I'll see if she can get a photo of the choir during an actual service. Might work and it might not; we'll try it.

Anyway, I wore a RTW sweater (which might be more of a maroon than burgundy...), my dark wash Lee jeans and my new Sewing Workshop Plaza Jacket, made from my mother-in-law's gift of a small piece of wool boucle (details in tomorrow's post).

I've got the front secured with a brooch...there's a sweet story there.

Around 1970, at age 16 My Sweet Baboo went to Japan to the World Boy Scout Jamboree. He had some pretty amazing adventures there, and did some shopping. Amongst his souvenirs, he picked up a couple of pieces of jewelry...a silver necklace w/a three-pearl charm on it and this brooch. He bought them because he knew someday he'd fall in love and he figured he could give those gifts to his future sweetheart. It wasn't until about 7 years later that we even met. He kept them all that time.

He gave me the necklace for my 20th birthday, five months before we were engaged, but didn't tell me the story because he was afraid I'd think he was cheap for giving me something he already had. It wasn't until after we were married that he gave me the brooch and told me where they came from.

I wore and wore the necklace and now it's put away, needing some repair, but I do wear the brooch from time to time. And marvel... ;)

Choir Sundays 08 #33

This Month's colors:Tan, brown or burnt orange w/jeans

Sigh. I own no burnt orange; my browns are all warm-weather choices...the tan shirts are from the back of the closet when we last wore tan and black in choir a couple of years ago. Not my favorite color combo! In the mom jeans and flats(back trouble keeping my heels close to the ground this week), not to mention the paste-colored tan RTW top from years past,I look like I'm heading out to climb on the tractor or something; the only thing that saves the look is the McCall's 5191 jacket in the embroidered eyelet denim...which continues to garner compliments.

Burgundy next month! Much better... :)

Choir Sundays '08 #32

This Month's Colors: Jeans (or denim) with tan, brown or burnt orange tops
I've got a 4 or 5 year old RTW sweater with my salvaged Vogue 2872 Anne Klein Skirt. I'm so pleased to have an alternative to blue jeans that I can wear ;).

Plus, now I have a faced-waist style skirt that actually fits pretty well; I'll use that to check future faced-waist skirts ;).

Publication note: Tomorrow starts my quarterly 'stay home and stay off the internet catch up week', so I'll see you again on next Sunday's choir post...on my List of Things To Do This Week is make a decision about whether or not to participate in this year's SWAP competition, now hosted by Stitcher's Guild. That decision also entails whether I will be SWAPping for me or for The Flute Player...got a couple of ideas either way...

Have a great week, everyone!

Choir Sundays 08 #31

This Month's Colors: Jeans with tan, brown or burnt orange

Jacket: Aren't you getting tired of seeing this? I like it, but I've worn it over and over and over in the last 6 months; I need to make a new jeans jacket...anyway, it's Vogue 8045

The top is Vogue 2975, one of my few nods to current trends.

The jeans are the dark wash Lees. There's a Jeans Sew-a-long on Stitcher's Guild; I'm toying with the idea of pulling one or two of my jeans patterns that have been waiting and having a go at it....

Choir Sunday 08 #30

This Month's Colors: Burnt Orange, Tan or Brown w/Blue jeans
(I stood on the back row, in front of the 'O')

I didn't know I'd be wearing my late-finished browns so soon!

Jacket: McCall's 5191, from the stretch denim eyelet I got from Muna Couture in Nashville in July of '07.

Top: Jalie 2682, from brown yummy rayon/lycra jersey purchased at Textile Fabric's 50% off sale this past July.

The jeans are Lees...'Medium' length, but I have to wear them with my 2 1/4" heeled boots.

I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to continue getting photos of the whole choir; we are going to three services (yes, three services: 8:00, 9:30 and 11:15) starting next week, and the choir will not be warming up/rehearsing on the stage. I'll be watching the rest of this month to see when it looks like will be the best opportunity...

Choir Sundays '08 #29

This Month's colors: Hot Pink, charcoal grey or black w/jeans

Top: Brown Paper Patterns Basic Shell, made from the remnants of the fabric left from the top I wore last week...printed cotton/lycra from Cutting Corners at a past Atlanta Expo. I think I decided this morning that I need to scoop out the front neckline of this pattern the next time I make it...it'll fit better and be more flattering, too.

Jacket: Same Ol' Vogue 8045 jacket, from fairly hefty denim.

The jeans are my long-legged Lees...again w/boots. I need some shoes w/heels that aren't sandals...

Choir Sundays '08 #28

This month's colors: Hot pink with black or charcoal grey and blue jeans

Shirt: Kwik Sew 3027, from a printed cotton/lycra shirting purchased from Louise Cutting at the '06 (I think) Atlanta Sewing Expo. (I've recently seen this same fabric at Textile Fabrics in Nashville...).

Lee straight legged jeans; wildly audacious (for me, anyway) belt from Target and, as the temps were not projected to go above 79 today, my boots.

Bring on fall... ;)

Choir Sundays '08 #27

This Month's Colors: Hot Pink or Black or Charcoal Grey w/jeans

Jacket: My old favorite Vogue 8045 denim jacket. My photographer failed to notice that the collar was slightly flipped...

Top: Printed silk charmeuse Modified Loes Hinse City Dress Shell. The flower is kind of a mix of red and hot pink...it was close enough.

Gloria Vanderbilt 'Mom' jeans this time. After a fabulous but exhausting conference, I wasn't up to wearing the heels required by my boot-cuts... ;)

Choir Sundays '08 #26

This Month's colors: Deep Hot Pink or charcoal grey or black w/blue jeans. The stage has been kind of redesigned; the choir is on new risers (with lights!) in the middle of the stage, with the band split on either side. It's different...

The only thing I'm wearing that I made is the Jacket; it's the McCall's 5191, from printed cotton/lycra sateen. I misread the fabric description when I purchased the fabric from Fabric Mart two years ago; consequently it wasn't what I was expecting (my fault totally). So I changed my mind two or three times before I finally used it as the test for the Palmer/Pletsch jeans jacket. It turned out cuter than I expected, and I was, um, tickled pink (couldn't resist!)that the pink in it is this month's choir pink. I was even more tickled that it was a dead match for that absolutely ancient Lands' End sleelveless mock-t-neck.
Need I even mention the Lee jeans anymore? ;)

Oh, I just noticed that this post starts the second year for Choir Sundays! My first Choir Sundays post was 9-2-07. Hard to believe I've been doing this for a year...even harder to believe that I wore something I made every Sunday I was in choir during the past year! I wasn't sure I could do it, but I did!

And, I guess since I'm in the habit of doing this, I'll keep it up for a while longer, anyway...

Choir Sundays '08 #25

Did she finish it, or did she not?

Answer: she did!

This month's colors: blue jeans w/gold, purple or chocolate brown

I'm wearing my *other* Lee jeans...these require the highest heels I own. Surprisingly, I'm finding it easier to wear heels now than I ever expected; maybe I'm finally getting used to them again. I'm still at a 2 3/4" limit, though, and I don't expect to get higher than that. But that's something for someone who owned nothing higher than 1" for years....

Anyway, I finished the jacket! It's McCall's 5191 from the embroidered stretch eyelet denim. And it's a good thing I skipped the interfacing; this jacket can nearly stand on its own as it is.

The top is Jalie 2682, made from the lovely chocolate brown rayon/Lycra jersey that came home with me from Textile Studio's July sale this year. Incidentally, the other top from that piece of fabric...the one that I cut out in DD's size instead of mine...has been passed along to DD and she has worn it already. It fits *her* well!

Choir Sundays '08 #24

A two-picture day. Our pastor and the whole worship team were invited to do the service at a church in the next city down the road this evening.

Anyway, for this morning's service, we are still wearing jeans w/either gold, brown or purple tops. I wore the new brown Vogue 2975 top, the familiar denim Vogue 8045 jacket, and Lee bootcut jeans.

For the evening service, we were to wear black and white w/our jeans, so I pulled out the black poly herringbone weaveLoes Hinse Bistro Jacket, and my black and white stripe rayon/lycra sleeveless, cowless Loes Hinse Cowl top. Same jeans! We only had about 40 minutes after the morning's second service to eat lunch, change clothes, and head out in order to be at the other church in time to do setup and sound checks (it's about an hour and a half away).

Hence the late post...it's been a long day!

(but worth it! ;) )

Choir Sundays '08 #23

This month's colors: blue jeans w/purple, gold or brown

The jeans are same ol' Lee bootcuts, but the top is new. It's Sandra Betzina's fauxlero top, Vogue 2980. The fabric is a fine gauge purple sweater knit, supposedly a rayon/lycra blend but I have my doubts about that. It's very soft and doesn't have a lot of recovery. But it's been in the stash waiting for the right pattern for probably 5 years now, so it's about time it got used! I *do* have a black lace trimmed knit cami under it...just for my own peace of mind ;).

Choir Sundays 08 # 22

I realized I didn't get a choir photo in July, but that's ok since we're wearing the same colors for August.... ;)

This month's colors: Purple, gold or brown w/blue jeans

The fellow in the front center didn't spill anything on his shirt; that's the shadows of the microphones! I took this photo early in practice; we had several more who came in a bit late, so we ended up with a fuller looking choir than this.

Me, I did a repeat:
Jacket: Purple poly/rayon boucle Loes Hinse's Retro Jacket. I've got on a dark brown silk modified Loes Hinse's City Dress; the bodice has been tweaked into a shell top.

And long-on-me ('regular length') Lee jeans.

Choir Sundays 08 #21

I forgot to take the camera in today! So...maybe I'll get the full choir photo next week...

Anyway, this month's colors are: blue jeans w/either gold, purple or brown

Yes, this is the goofiest pose ever; not only am I standing funny but there's a pile of clothes that my oldest DS is supposed to take back to a friend lying on the floor behind me. I didn't think I could Photoshop those out...although I confess to thinking hard about trying!! But, overlooking the goofiness, that jacket is the only blue denim jacket I've got...gotta do something about that one of these days... Vogue 8045. I'm wearing it with a purple poly crepe knit version of Loes Hinse's Cowl Top, in the short length, minus the cowl, with short sleeves. This was my 'wearable test' of that pattern, and I've worn it and worn it and worn it.

Of course, the jeans are plain ol' Lees. I've got some denim to try to fabricate my own...someday!

But I'm off to spend the week doing housework and laundry and maybe sewing around the edges; I'll see you in next Sunday's choir post (hopefully I'll remember the camera...)
